Wes Anderson: Asteroid City Exhibition @ 180 Strand
Get ready to dive headfirst into the whimsical world of Wes Anderson. With his new movie on the horizon, 180 Studios are once again hosting an immersive exhibition featuring original sets, props, costumes, and artwork from Asteroid City. But that’s not all – this time, they’ve gone the extra mile, bringing in several captivating photo opportunities and even giving visitors the chance to dine at the film’s iconic 1950s diner.
The exhibition is located at 180 Strand, but don’t worry about getting lost. The entrance is conveniently situated on the side of Surrey Street. Just follow the unmistakable, massive sign and join the queue of eager Anderson enthusiasts. Once your ticket is scanned, prepare to embark on a journey that will transport you back in time to the charming Asteroid City of 1955, with its population of 87.
The first room showcases various sets of the fictional town, with lots of memorable photo opportunities. Photography is allowed, but only on mobile phones. You may even have the chance to enter some of the sets, with helpful staff guiding you on which parts are accessible for walking or sitting. Don’t forget to explore the intriguing row of vending machines and see all the goodies inside just waiting to be purchased.
As you move on to the second room, be on the lookout for more captivating sets, including interior designs, costumes, and props. Keep your eyes peeled for the thrilling arrival of an alien…
In the third room, you’ll discover lots more props, costumes, and intricately designed interiors. Personally, one of my favorites was the intricate train miniature, a true testament to Anderson’s attention to detail. Before leaving, don’t forget to visit the stall offering a range of merchandise, including t-shirts, posters, prints, and the beloved soundtracks from Anderson’s films.
Your journey concludes with a visit to the diner, where you can take a seat and treat yourself to mouthwatering pies, creamy milkshakes, and classic hot dogs. Try out the Gooseberry Shake if you get the chance!
The Asteroid City exhibition will run until July 8, 2023. Tickets are priced at £15 and must be booked online in advance.
