The Best Coffee In London: 9 Favourite Coffee Shops in Central London
There’s definitely no shortage when it comes to coffee places in central London, but with endless options, it can be a bit overwhelming! As I like to help the indecisive, I’ve tried & tested and put together a guide to my favourite caffeine spots in Covent Garden, covering everywhere from Holborn to Seven Dials and Soho.
Whether that’s a place for a quick morning coffee, a delicious lunch or a sit down with a nice pastry, I’ve got you covered.
Best Coffee In Holborn
The Black Penny
34 Great Queen St, London WC2B 5AA
The Black Penny is without a doubt a top contender for the best coffee in the Covent Garden and Holborn area. They also have a great salad bar with delicious fresh salmon and scrumptious veggies. Their hot chocolate is one of the best sugary treats in London.
Coffee, Pastries and Sandwiches In Covent Garden
Redemption Roasters
40 Drury Ln, London WC2B 5RR
Redemption Roasters are a coffee shop that roasts its own beans and has several locations throughout London. I went in for a latte, but keep coming back for the most delicious toasted sandwiches of Covent Garden, maybe even in the whole of central London. As their name suggests, they also help young offenders with training and job support.
% Arabica
5 King St, London WC2E 8HH
I’ve heard a few people didn’t even realise this was a coffee shop. Don’t let its fashionable exterior and interiors intimidate you – just walk inside and order their iced matcha, you’ll come back again and again.
Grind
42 Maiden Ln, London WC2E 7LJ
If you are into Instagramming your latte, then this place is for you. They also have a small, but tasty platter/brunch menu (plus a huge range of cocktails!) if you want a break from exploring Covent Garden.
Coffee & Cakes In Seven Dials
WatchHouse
7 Upper St Martin’s Ln, London WC2H 9DL
While their coffee is a solid 10, it’s their sandwiches I keep coming back to, plus the beautifully calm modern decor. Their Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich Burger is to die for, as are their deadly house cookies and cream brownies. If you sit in, their salmon, eggs and avocado is a brunch you won’t want to miss.
Monmouth Coffee
27 Monmouth St, London WC2H 9EU
No guide is complete without Monmouth Coffee, especially their OG shop and namesake on Monmouth Street! They’ve been roasting fantastic coffee for over 40 years, so you know what you are in for. Located in the street where it all started.
Coffee in Aldwych
Lundenwic
45 Aldwych, London WC2B 4DW
Another favourite of mine. In addition to great brews, amazing cheese toasties, and delicious salads, they’re also the perfect place to escape the loud city noises. The relaxed seats in the back are my go-to place for a recharge after exploring Soho and Covent Garden.
Coffee & Lunch Places in Soho
Hideaway Coffee
7 Farrier’s Psge, London W1D 7DP
Tucked away in a little alleyway and courtyard, Hideaway has great coffee, huge pastries, and delicious toasted sandwiches that make it the perfect lunchtime pit stop.
