Wanderlust Tag

wanderlust tag

I like tags because they are a fun way to get to know the person behind the blog so that is why I am sharing my answers to the Wanderlust Tag with you.

Where was your first plane to?
Amsterdam, Netherlands to Zagreb, Croatia. I was 13/14 and it was first time I went back to my country of birth (Bosnia) after we fled the country six years earlier. I remember my brother wanted the window seat and I was pissed off because he fell asleep 10 minutes after the plane took off. But on my way back I got to sit at the window so all was well for my teenage self.

Where have you travelled to that you would love to visit again?
Although I lived in Melbourne for five months I haven’t seen and done everything I wanted so I would love to go there again. I also wouldn’t mind going back to Amsterdam, Dublin, Prague, Riga and Zagreb.

You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no object, where are you going?
New Orleans for sure. I have an obsession with this city and I should start saving for it, in the meantime I am dreaming away and building too high expectations.

Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or car?
Trains as they are usually the most relaxed ways to travel and not as much hassle as the other two. Plus you get to see and enjoy the view.

Favourite travel website?
The stories on Nowhere are so dreamy and their posts always take me virtually away to wherever they they are writing about.

Where would you travel to just eat the food?
I love love looooove Mexican (that actually might not be as authentic as I think, but it’s authentically delicious) and would therefore like to go and see and taste how the food is there.

Is there a place you would never go again?
Probably Monaco, I went there one rainy afternoon in May 2010 and there was nothing to do, to me the highlight of the day was I found the train station again. No offence, but I think this is more a place suited to spending a lot, particularly on gambling and shopping.

Can you recite your passport number from memory if asked?
I do, but whenever I have to fill it in on official documents I double check just in case! Hanging around in immigration isn’t the best way to start a trip!

Do you prefer the Window, Aisle, or Middle seat?
Aisle, especially for long haul flights. I like the idea that I can get up to stretch my legs whenever I want and go to the toilet without waking everyone one up. I am one of those people who always gets in last on the place so people don’t have to get up for me. Although I wouldn’t mind the window seat for the view!

How do you pass the time on the air plane?
I can’t sleep on any moving objects so I tend to do the common things to kill time: I stare out of the window, suppress any worst case scenarios playing in my head, take the obligatory airplane shot, talk to the person I am travelling with, go through the magazines, try to read a bit, go to the toilet, stare out of the window some more.

  2. I agree with you about monaco. Its nice but, unless you have the money and want to gamble, there is no point going back.
I use to enjoy seating by the window, but after 13 hour flights, I’ve been converted to an aisle seater.

  6. I did this tag a couple of weeks ago but some of the questions are different, funny how things can slightly change. I’m glad to meet another ‘can’t meet when on a moving object’ person! Everyone thinks I’m slightly crazy. I’ve never been able to, and unfortunately I often end up being really irritable at the destination while everyone else is well rested, so frustrating.

  9. Loved this tag! I’ve never been to Monaco but it doesn’t really appeal. But totally agree about the train – I love the Eurostar, particularly upgrading so I have my own little space, a snack and can relax and watch the views unfold!

  10. This post was so nice to read because it says more about you and as you mentioned, it’s always interesting to know more about person behind the blog. If you do come back to Croatia, Zagreb will be nice experience, but if you decide to take train anywhere (like some other place in the country) it might not be such a pleasurable experience. Trains are so slow and always delaid! I hope it gets fixed up in further projects.
