CARNABY STREET – Christmas lights and decorations sparkle up London’s cold winter months and are almost worth a trip to Oxford Street. But my favourite are the lights in Carnaby Street – I don’t want to give it away so the photo is from last year, but it shows they take a different approach to your standard street lights/decorations. And while you are there you can do some shopping in Kingly Court, have a drink at Joe’s or take a look at the bizarre chocolate creations at Choccywoccydoodah.
BROOKLYN COFFEE – a newish coffee place near run by New Yorkers who’ve brought their brand to Brick Lane. According to their Instagram they ‘ love cool shit & make great coffee’. Now, I don’t drink coffee but luckily I have a friend who is obsessed with finding good coffee and who was more than happy to share her thoughts “they have excellent quality coffee, maybe the best I’ve had in London complete with the friendliest staff”. I can confirm the latter, as well adding that the hot chocolate was pretty good.
SANDEMANS TOUR – I mentioned Sandemans in my Amsterdam post and because they are my favourite walking tours I am going to add them here too. I am a not a fan of the bus tours so when my friends visit I take them for the Free Tour. The tour took about 3.5 hours – that includes a break – and takes you to all the important tourist things you can’t miss on your first visit in the city.
FORBIDDEN PLANET – the world’s biggest science fiction, fantasy and cult entertainment shop and a must-see shop for comic geeks and fanboys/girls. There is a whole floor devoted to must-have merchandise with everything from Adventure Time to Star Wars. And then there is a a basement floor with comics and books ranging from Marvel to Attack on Titan.
THE SEBRIGHT ARMS – I came in here because I had heard the Lucky Chip burgers they serve were really good (and their only other location at the time was a market van open only on weekends- though now they have a more permanent location in Dalston), and to say I wasn’t disappointed is a massive understatement. Heading inside I found a great pub which served a fantastic selection of beers – which you can taste before making your decision and a small venue for live music which puts on shows with rising acts as well as established ones. And let’s not forget the the burgers – definitely worth a try.
