Friday, Five Things To Do In London This Weekend

Here are my five picks of what you can do, see or eat at in London.

Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar
You know when you order something and then you regret it when you see the plates of other people? This is a very important issue for me. At Woodstock you don’t have to, it’s a Japanese kushiyaki bar where you can sit down for sake/beer, share their numerous mini plate dishes and enjoy a chat before embarking on the evening’s happenings. I highly recommend the deep-fried avocado.

Cinderella the Exhibition
You might have heard about this movie about a girl who doesn’t manage to stay out past midnight on a night out and then a guy in way too tight pants and a foot fetish is looking for her? Disney’s new live action remake of Cinderella has a costume exhibition on Leicester Square that might be worth a visit. The costume designer used more than 1.7 million Swaroski crystals for the movie and because they wanted to brag about it, they set up this makeshift event tent which takes over the square’s mini garden. It’s a marketing stunt of course, but hey tickets are free (though must be booked in advance).

Maltby Street Market
If you have the time and money to go to one food market this weekend, make sure that it’s Maltby Street. Take it from an insider: Borough will be too busy, so this will be your little gem. Read about my favourite vendors and food hidden away under the railway arches here.

Fashion on the Ration at Imperial War Museum
Go south of the river (yes, further than the Southbank which doesn’t really count as you can still see the north side from there), it’s not scary I promise. Then go to the Imperial War Museum for an exhibition how fashion survived and how men and women found new ways to dress under the rationing in 1940s Britain. As someone who actually was in a war I can tell you people still want to look their best and I still miss the matching trousers my mom made for me and my doll from her old ones.

House of Hackney Sample Sale
Talking about (interior) war … how about the sample sale at House of Hackney? Up to 70% off on their fabric, furniture, wallpaper and other interiors stuff you don’t need but just want for the sake of it.  Make sure to stock up on proper paper money as it’s a cash only event – no contactless here!  Sat 28th – Sun 29th, 10am-5pm @Kachette, 347 Old Street.
